Seattle police arrested a 37-year-old man Tuesday morning in connection with a burglary at a South Seattle business where approximately $400 worth of alcohol was stolen.

Officers responded around 4:15 a.m. to reports of a break-in in the 5200 block of Rainier Avenue South. When they arrived, they found a damaged front door, a broken window and a metal pry bar left at the scene. The suspect had already fled.

While searching the area, officers located a man a few blocks away carrying a large duffel bag and detained him without incident. The man denied involvement in the burglary.

After reviewing surveillance footage provided by the business owner, investigators identified the suspect as the individual who broke into the building and placed him under arrest.

According to the police report, the business owner estimated the stolen alcohol to be worth about $400. Damage to the front entry and window is expected to cost approximately $2,000 in repairs.

Police booked the suspect, who has a prior conviction for attempted burglary, into the King County Jail on a charge of commercial burglary.

Officers recovered the stolen alcohol and returned it to the business owner. The pry bar was also recovered and logged as evidence.
