The Seattle Office of Labor Standards (OLS) has reached a settlement with Volume Services Inc., doing business as Centerplate (Sodexo Live!), over alleged violations of the city’s Secure Scheduling and Paid Sick and Safe Time (PSST) ordinances. The agreement will return nearly $186,000 to 207 affected employees.

Under the terms of the settlement, Volume Services Inc. will pay $185,668.67 in back wages and penalties to workers and $8,996.18 to the City of Seattle. The company also agreed to implement a written Secure Scheduling policy to ensure future compliance.

OLS alleged that the company failed to pay the required premium compensation for “clopening” shifts—those scheduled less than 10 hours apart—and did not provide employees with a written policy outlining their rights to paid sick and safe time.

Volume Services Inc., a global hospitality company employing approximately 1,000 workers in Seattle and 40,000 worldwide, operates food and beverage services at T-Mobile Park. The company is the official concessions and catering partner for the Seattle Mariners and also serves concerts and other large events at the stadium.

“We urge other food and beverage providers and businesses that are covered by the Secure Scheduling Ordinance to take note of this settlement,” said OLS Director Steven Marchese. “As Seattle prepares to host some World Cup games next summer, it’s essential for businesses to fully understand and comply with all relevant Seattle labor standards ahead of major events to avoid liability. OLS offers free technical assistance and training to support compliance and help businesses operate responsibly.”
