Evergreen Goodwill of Northwest Washington is encouraging local businesses to donate surplus items after receiving a major contribution from the former Zulily headquarters in Seattle.
The donation, coordinated by the Vanbarton Group, the new owner of the building at 2601 Elliott Avenue, included hundreds of office chairs, desks, IT equipment, and kitchen appliances. These items are now being reused at Evergreen Goodwill locations across the region, including the organizationโs new Georgetown Operations Center opening this fall.
โThis donation is a powerful example of how businesses can make a meaningful difference in their communities,โ said Libby Johnson McKee, president and CEO of Evergreen Goodwill. โBy choosing to donate rather than discard, the Vanbarton Group helped us stretch our resources and invest more deeply in the people we serve. We hope other companies will be inspired to do the same.โ
In addition to furnishing operational sites and job training centers, Evergreen Goodwill plans to sell remaining items in its retail stores. Proceeds will support free job training, education, and career placement programs offered throughout King, Snohomish, Skagit, Whatcom, and Kitsap counties.
The Vanbarton Group approached Evergreen Goodwill directly, citing the nonprofitโs commitment to sustainability and community impact. Their contribution diverted valuable materials from landfills and saved the nonprofit an estimated $100,000 in equipment costs.
Evergreen Goodwill operates 23 nonprofit thrift stores and donation centers and employs more than 2,000 people in the region. As the organization expands its no-cost job training and education services, it is calling on other businesses to consider similar donations that support workforce development and environmental stewardship.
