Applications are now open for the 2025โ26 Seattle Youth Safety Ambassadors (YSA) program, a peer-led initiative focused on promoting mental health awareness and community safety in local schools. The program is a collaboration between the Department of Education and Early Learning (DEEL) and the Seattle Human Services Department (HSD), aimed at empowering youth to serve as trusted messengers and resource connectors within their communities.
Seattle youth ages 15 to 19 who attend Chief Sealth International, Franklin, Garfield, Ingraham, or Rainier Beach high schools are eligible to apply for the paid opportunity. At least two Youth Safety Ambassadors will be selected at each school, with additional roles potentially supporting outreach to nearby middle schools. Applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, October 5.
YSA participants will lead peer outreach efforts to increase awareness of free mental health and safety resources available through Seattleโs schools and city programs. Ambassadors will take part in campus events, design youth-focused outreach materials, and represent the youth voice in shaping safer, more supportive school environments.
โYouth who care about wellness and safety in their school and community, have lived experience with the challenges young people face today, and want to be a trusted voice for their peers, are strongly encouraged to apply,โ program organizers said.
Participants will receive a $167 monthly stipend from October through Juneโtotaling $1,500 for the school yearโand receive training in leadership, public speaking, and mental health support. Ambassadors will also be provided with outreach materials, promotional items, and other resources to help them effectively engage their peers.
The Youth Safety Ambassadors initiative is part of the cityโs broader effort to expand access to behavioral health and community safety services, particularly among youth who are often underserved or unaware of the resources available to them. Interested applicants must submit their completed application form by the October 5 deadline.
