A new art exhibition curated by Seattle youth opens Thursday at ARTS at King Street Station, offering a fresh take on the city’s civic art collection. Titled You, Me, & Everything Between Us, the show features works selected by 10 youth curators as part of the Fresh Perspectives program.
Organized by the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture (OAC), the exhibit runs from September 4 through October 11, 2025, and aims to expand the city’s public art holdings to reflect more diverse artistic voices and lived experiences.
“This exhibition represents a broader diversity of artistic voices than in generations past,” said Gülgün Kayim, director of Arts & Culture. “This is a first step toward expanding our collection to represent the many voices that make up the fabric of our city.”
The youth curators—paid participants in OAC’s Fresh Perspectives program—were guided by teaching artist Janet Nechama Miller. They issued the call for submissions, reviewed the artwork, and curated the final exhibition. Their selections explore themes of identity, community, connection, and division.
The program is funded by Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) through its 1% for Art program. As part of their experience, the youth learned about SPU’s mission and values, which informed their curatorial approach. The selected pieces will be considered for inclusion in the city’s permanent Civic Art Collection.
“Seattle Public Utilities is pleased to support the Fresh Perspectives Youth Curators through our 1% for Art program,” said Andrew Lee, SPU general manager and CEO. “We look forward to reviewing the exhibition and selecting artworks that will be part of the Civic Art Collection, especially those that address fundamental issues of equity and environmental justice and engage communities.”
ARTS at King Street Station is located on the top floor of the historic train station at 303 S. Jackson Street in Seattle. The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and until 8 p.m. on First Thursdays. Admission is free.
The opening reception for You, Me, & Everything Between Us will take place on Thursday, September 4, at 6 p.m. The event will include refreshments and additional programming.
Also on view is Partition is Imaginary, curated by Rohena Alam Khan. Outside in the station’s plaza, Totem Star will host its End of Summer Kickback Showcase, funded by OAC’s Hope Corps grant. The event features live performances, community tables, and opportunities for youth and artists to connect.
ARTS at King Street Station was created to expand access and visibility for artists of color. The 7,500-square-foot space includes a gallery, artist studio, and OAC offices. Programs and exhibitions are selected through an open application process with input from a diverse group of community advisors focused on racial equity and cultural inclusion.
