Summary:
The American Red Cross is urging people to make their health a priority and help save lives by donating blood or platelets during National Wellness Month. With donor turnout dropping during summer, the Red Cross is especially asking those with type O positive or B negative blood to make an appointment now. To support both wellness and donation, the Red Cross is offering a free A1C screening in August for all who make a successful blood, platelet, or plasma donation. Donors who give between August 1-28, 2025, will receive a $15 e-gift card to a merchant of their choice.
During National Wellness Month, the American Red Cross is calling on donors to make their health a priority—while also helping save lives—by giving blood or platelets. With donor turnout dropping during summer, the Red Cross is especially asking those with type O positive or B negative blood to make an appointment now.
To support both wellness and donation, the Red Cross is offering a free A1C screening in August for all who make a successful blood, platelet, or plasma donation. This screening, which helps detect prediabetes and diabetes, requires no fasting, and confidential results will be available one to two weeks after the donation via the Red Cross Blood Donor App or online donor account.
“Changes in routine during August—back-to-school plans, vacations, and the return of fall sports—can affect donation rates,” said the Red Cross. “But for patients, the need is constant.” Donors are encouraged to keep their appointments, which could be the difference in someone’s treatment journey.
As a thank-you, donors who give between August 1–28, 2025, will receive a $15 e-gift card to a merchant of their choice. Full details are available at RedCrossBlood.org/Test.
